Today we're going to help you find some insights 'within yourself', so the questions posed in this issue are for your own self reflection, and the key to power here is to be very honest in your answers, after all - they WILL remain between you and yourself.
We all like to believe that we think for ourselves and make our own decisions, but do we really?
When I started my own 'Reclaim Your Life' journey I heard this very interesting quote by George Bernard Shaw:
As absurd as it may seem at first glance, I've come to see how true it really is. You see, the reality for most of us is that no one ever teaches us to think and make our own decisions confidently. What we ARE all taught, whether directly or indirectly, is to conform. We always feel more accepted and sometimes even more loved - when we behave according to socially acceptable conventions or standards, or according to what 'everyone else does...'
This is part of our conditioning, the way we're 'programmed' to behave, and as such - it becomes almost automatic for us, outside of our conscious awareness. So here and now we're bringing this to your awareness, and let's think of examples of this type of behavior, that may help 'drive this point home' for some of you.
School is usually a place where we're very vulnerable to our need to feel accepted - think of the times during your school life where this need to feel accepted influenced your behavior. Has any of this behavior stayed with you to this day?
What about the need to have your parent's approval, or any of your loved ones for that matter?
So, you may say 'well, I'm still making my own decision, and part of it is consideration to other people's feelings', and I'd ask you how big is this part of your decision, really?
When facing a challenge in life, most of us like to share it with others and collect some advice that becomes an important part of our choice of the course of action we end up taking (and this is something we've touched on in your free audio gift you got when subscribing to receive your 'Reclaim Your Life Nuggets'). Let's face it, we're not confident enough to think for ourselves, and actually listen within to our own voice, the one that already knows all the right answers for us.
So the next time you 'think you think' ask yourself - is it really me? Is this really my own voice I'm following?
Stay tuned for our next Reclaim Your Life Nugget.
